Japanese Mayors Awarded With NFTs for Excellence in Digital Technology:
The Japanese government is awarding non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as a supplementary award to local authorities that excelled in their digital technology usage while solving local issues as well as fostering the digital economy.
In total, seven mayors received NFT awards for various initiatives.
According to coinpost reports, the digital tokens distributed at the “Summer Digi Denkoshien 2022” ceremony, essentially represents “digital certificates” of achievement.
In attendance, Japan’s chief cabinet secretar, HiroKazu Matsuno, headed the ceremony in the presence of the country’s Prime minister, Fumio Kishida.
Which Blockchain holds the Digital tokens
The tokens were issued on the Ethereum blockchain network with Proof of Attendance Protocol (POAP) technology.
POAP-style NFTs are mostly used at exclusive events and are usually minted on the xDai chain.
Meanwhile, the Secretariat’s NFTs cannot be traded on secondary markets.
Finally, the Tokyo-based crypto company – bitFlyer Holdings- provided technical support for the offering, including IndieSquare, TREE Digital Studio, and Tomonari Kougei.
